Sometimes a user needs to find a specific line or word in a document. It would be extremely inconvenient to re-read the entire text for this, so many programs are equipped with a search tool.
Instructions
Step 1
In Microsoft Office Word, you can search for a specific string in several ways: by its ordinal number (if you know it) or by content, that is, the words that should be contained in the string.
Step 2
To search for a string by its ordinal number, you must have correctly configured the display of the status bar. It is located at the bottom of the program window, just below the working area of the document.
Step 3
Click on the status bar with the right mouse button. In the context menu, mark the "Line number" item with a marker. Now you can see in the lower left corner the number of lines contained in the document, and get information about which line the cursor is currently on.
Step 4
In order to set the search parameters, left-click on the link button "Line: [number of the line where the cursor is located]" on the status bar. A new dialog box will open. On the "Go" tab, left-click the "Line" item, in the corresponding field enter the number of the line you need and press the Enter key or the "Next" button. The cursor will be moved in the text to the beginning of the line you specified.
Step 5
This dialog box does not interfere with editing the text, so you can leave it on until you find all the lines you need. To move from the current position to a specified number of lines up or down, use the signs "+" and "-" before the ordinal number of the desired line.
Step 6
In Word and in almost all other programs, to search for a string by its content (a given word or phrase), the search tool is called by pressing the Ctrl and F keys. It is also available in the "Edit" menu via the "Find" command, and in some programs it is moved to toolbar. In MS Word - the "Home" tab, the "Editing" block, the "Find" button.
Step 7
You should use this tool in the same way as in the case of searching for a string by its number. Enter the word you need in the search field and click on the "Next", "Find" button or the Enter key on the keyboard.
