Microsoft Word is a powerful text editor that allows you to perform all kinds of document formatting operations. So, the program allows you to create all kinds of footnotes that serve as a note, and edit them in accordance with the wishes of the user.
Instructions
Step 1
Start Microsoft Word using the Start menu - All Programs - Microsoft Office - Microsoft Word. In the menu that appears, open the document for editing in which you want to insert the necessary footnotes.
Step 2
Go to the "Links" tab, which is located at the top of the program toolbar. Then navigate to the section of text you want to insert the footnote.

In the opened list of tools, you will see the "Footnotes" section, where the necessary controls are located. Select the required piece of text with the left mouse button, and then click on the "Insert footnote" button of this toolbox of the program. By default, the link will be added to the bottom of the page and will become available in the header and footer editing mode, where you can configure the desired display and text formatting options.
Step 4
To adjust the numbering of footnote and separator elements and their location on the page, click on the arrow icon, which is located in the title bar of the "Footnotes" section. You will see a dialog box offering a list of options available for editing.
Step 5
In the "Position" block, you can configure the parameters for placing footnotes on the page. In the "Footnotes" line, you can select the options "Bottom of page" and "Bottom of text". In the "Format" block, you can specify the type of numbering used to define an element in the table. The Start At value allows you to set the starting value for the footnote balloon numbers. In the "Numbering" line, you can customize the order of numbering - whether it will continue after each page in the document or start over every time.
Step 6
Click the "Insert" button to insert the footnote and "Apply" to save the changes. Also save the changes in the document by pressing the key combination Ctrl and S or using the "Save" button in the upper left corner of the program. The creation of footnotes in Word is complete.
