A satellite dish allows you to receive not only a digital TV signal, but also, when connected to a computer, Internet packages. In this it differs significantly from the traditional etheric one. The territory or coverage area of the satellite, where it is possible to receive it, depends on the location of the satellite in orbit. Therefore, before proceeding to connect an offset satellite dish to a PC, you should accurately calculate two parameters - your geographic coordinates and the location of the satellite.
Necessary
- - satellite antenna alignment program;
- - Fastsatfinder program;
- - DVB card.
Instructions
Step 1
Install the satellite dish in an open area, i.e. in a place where a high-rise building or a tall tree with a spreading crown will not be located in front of it. The main thing is that there is free space in the direction of the satellite, otherwise the signal will be weak and constantly interrupted. It can be screwed on a bracket to a wall, in a yard on a mast or on a roof: the main thing is that it is either as horizontal as possible in relation to the ground, or strictly vertical. This will further make it easier to adjust the elevation or tilt of the antenna.
Step 2
Select the satellite from which you will receive the signal. Its coverage area can be found at www.lyngsat.com. If you do not know the coordinates of your city, then determine them on the portal www.maps.google.com, where in the search bar enter the name of the settlement, then hover over the red marker that will appear on the map and press the right mouse button. In the drop-down menu, select "What's here?" The search bar will contain the coordinates of the place.
Step 3
Align the satellite dish with the sun. You will need satellite antenna alignment software. With its help, you can determine the location on the horizon of the sun at a specific point at a specific time. For example, the satellite Euetelsat W4 36E (NTV +) is located almost at its zenith. Therefore, at noon, the satellite dish should be turned in the same direction as the sun. Then adjust the signal with the tilt angle of the dish. Take into account the properties of the satellite dish converter. It can be Ku-band (linear, circular) and C-band - this characteristic is written on its body. You can find out which converter should be used on the website www.lyngsat.com on the parameters of satellite transponders.
Step 4
Install DVB-card and Fastsatfinder software on your PC. Select the required satellite in it, and in the drop-down menu - the value of the transponders. Aim the antenna at the selected satellite, set its tilt angle, press the red button in the program and begin to slowly scan the horizon, moving it left and right. After passing the sector, raise or lower it one degree and repeat from the beginning. When a signal appears, the percentage of power will be visible on the PC screen. Maximize them and fix the plate. Then adjust the signal strength with the linear converter.
