A computer contains many different devices that perform a wide variety of tasks. This is a video card with which an image appears on the screen, and a sound card to recreate sound and voice, and a network card with which a computer can be connected to the Internet and a local network. All devices cannot be enumerated! In order for the operating system to be able to detect and interact with them, special programs are needed, which are called drivers.
Instructions
Step 1
If any of the devices on your computer does not want to work, then first you should check if a specific driver is installed on your computer that matches your operating system.
To get started in Windows XP, right-click on the shortcut "My Computer" and find the item "Properties", then navigate to the "Hardware" tab and click the "Device Manager" button. In Windows Vista or Windows 7, instead of the General tab, select the Device Manager section on the left side of the window.
Step 2
The Device Manager section lists all the devices on your computer. Both internal and external devices are shown here. Among the many devices, there may be devices that are marked with icons with a question or exclamation mark. These icons warn you that the required drivers are not installed for this device or are installed incorrectly.
Step 3
In this case, you need to put a disc with the necessary drivers in the computer drive, if they are not there, then you need to download the drivers from the Internet. In the window, right-click on the selected device and select "Update drivers …".
Select the required installation: from a disk or folder, do not forget to tell the operating system the folder or disk where the drivers to be installed are located. Wait a few seconds while Windows installs the drivers, your problem device starts to actively and correctly work.
As you can see, there is nothing difficult in installing the necessary drivers. The most important thing is to choose the right device that requires installation of the driver, as well as to find the program that will be suitable for your version of the operating system. And, of course, do not lose the driver discs that come with the purchase of a computer or other devices.
