When composing and editing documents in a text editor Microsoft Word, it is possible to use additional document markup characters. They are not printed, but only present on the screen and in the commands for formatting the document. The display of such icons can be turned on and off at any stage of creating and editing text.

Instructions

Step 1

Disable the page structure display mode. In this mode, the graphics editor puts labels in front of sections, subsections and paragraphs of text. They are not printed, but serve for the most visual representation of the structure of the document and can be useful, for example, when compiling a table of contents for a document. You can turn off the display of non-printable structure markup characters by clicking the icon for any other display option (for example, "page layout") in the lower right corner of the screen, to the left of the page zoom slider. The same display mode switches are duplicated in the editor menu on the "View" tab in the "Document view modes" section - you can use them.

Step 2

Disable the display of "all characters" - this will remove from the screen those icons that mark simple and non-breaking spaces in the text, paragraph endings, tabs and other service marks that form the structure of the document, but are not printed. This can be done by clicking the corresponding icon in the editor menu - it is placed in the "Paragraph" section of the "Home" tab.

Step 3

Disable the display of formatting characters on the screen in the editor settings, if necessary. To do this, first open the main Word menu - click the big round "Office" button in the upper left corner of the window. Click the rectangular Word Options button located at the bottom right. In this way, you will get access to change the settings of the text editor.

Step 4

Select the "Display" line from the list in the left pane of the settings window and uncheck the checkboxes of the section with the heading "Always show these formatting characters". It is not necessary to remove all marks - remove only those that interfere with your work with documents. When everything is ready, click the "OK" button in the lower right corner.
