Instructions

Step 1

If, when working on the Internet, the page does not open for a long time, while the network indicator in the tray shows an active download of data, the process of receiving information can be stopped by clicking the cross-shaped icon in the browser (“Stop”). This option is available in all the most used browsers. If in some situation it is not possible to stop the download, just close the page being opened.

Step 2

It happens that after the page is closed, the indicator in the tray signals the continuation of the download. In this case, turn on the offline mode in your browser, this usually helps to stop any connections. After that, you can take your time to figure out the situation - for example, check the list of processes and network connections. As a last resort, just close your browser. Remember that any events that you do not understand taking place on your computer may indicate that it has been infected by Trojans. That is why any suspicious network activity should be suppressed.

Step 3

To force the browser to close, use the alt="Image" + F4 key combination. It usually helps even in a situation when the browser freezes, ceasing to respond to user actions, while some information is being actively downloaded. A frozen browser can also be closed through the Task Manager by pressing Ctrl + alt="Image" + Del.

Step 4

Quite often you have to stop an already running download - for example, if the connection is too slow. In the Opera browser, when the file download starts, the downloads page automatically opens. Once the file you want is highlighted, you can pause or cancel the download.

Step 5

In the Mozilla Firefox browser, in the opened download window, right-click the downloaded file and select the "Cancel" item in the context menu.

Step 6

If you use Google Chrome, after the download starts, a line with the name of the downloaded file will appear at the bottom of the window. To cancel the download, click the arrow next to the file name and select "Cancel" in the menu that opens.

Step 7

To cancel the download for IE 9 users, press the "Service" button (in the form of a gear) and select the "View downloads" item. After that, it remains to select the desired file and click the "Remove this download from the list" button.
