Image format in relation to "paper technologies" is usually called the size of the picture - its length, width, or the ratio of these values. And in electronic technologies, such a word is often used to denote a data recording standard that is used when saving an image to a file. Using the graphics editor Adobe Photoshop, you can change both the size of the picture and the type of file to which it will be saved.
Necessary
Graphic editor Adobe Photoshop
Instructions
Step 1
Regardless of whether you need to resize an image or the type of file that stores it, start by launching the editor and loading the original image into it. If you double-click on a file in Explorer or on the desktop, both of these operations will be performed automatically sequentially - the OS will do it for you.
Step 2
To change the length and width of the image, you need to call the appropriate dialog - open the "Image" section in the editor menu and select the "Image size" item. Instead of the menu, you can use the "hot keys" alt="Image" + Ctrl + I.
Step 3
By default, this dialog is checked in the "Maintain aspect ratio" box. This means that any change in length or width will automatically change the value of the second dimension. Uncheck this check box if you do not want to keep the original aspect ratio.
Step 4
Change the values in the "Length" and "Width" as required. This window contains two pairs of such fields - one is more convenient to use if you intend to print a picture, and the other refers to screen sizes. Changes to values in one of the two sections will be automatically repeated in the other. Click OK, and the picture will take on the specified dimensions.
Step 5
If you need to change the file format in which the image is stored, immediately after loading the image, open one of the three options in the save dialog. In the "File" section of the Adobe Photoshop menu, the commands for calling them are designated as "Save for Web & Devices", "Save As" and simply "Save".
Step 6
Each of these dialogs has a File Type field with a list of image recording formats available to the graphics editor - select the one you want. When the dialog is invoked using the "Save for Web & Devices" command, this drop-down list appears at the second stage, after the form with the image quality optimization settings. It would be more correct to select the file type before changing the settings in the optimization form - the list of formats is placed in its upper right corner. After setting the desired type, click the "Save" button - the image file will be saved in the selected format.
