Protection of personal information stored on the hard drive of the computer is ensured by blocking access to certain sections of the hard drive. This procedure is carried out using the tools of the Windows system.

Step 1
Log on to the Windows XP operating system using an administrator account. Open the Control Panel menu and navigate to Appearance and Themes.

Open the Folder Options submenu. Go to the "View" tab. Disable the "Use simple file sharing" function by unchecking the box of the same name. Click the Ok button.
Step 3
If you are using the Windows Seven operating system, skip the previous steps. Open the "My Computer" menu and right-click the desired local drive. In the new window select "Properties".

Open the Security menu and click the Change button. Select user groups that should not be able to access the custom section. Click the Remove button.
Step 5
If you were unable to delete the required category or a specific user, activate the "Deny" function in the "Full Control" line. Click the Apply button and close the dialog menu.
Step 6
In a situation where you have not been able to achieve the desired effect using standard Windows functions, use the Folder Guard program. Install this application and restart your computer.
Step 7
Run the program and immediately set a password to access it. To do this, open the File tab and select the Master Password menu. After entering the password, press the Ok button and return to the main menu of the application.
Step 8
Select the required local disk with the left mouse button. Click the Protect button and go to Lock with password. Enter the password twice in the provided fields and click the Ok button.
Step 9
The changes will take effect after you restart your computer. Remember that to gain access to the section, you must use the account with which you locked the local disk.
