Instructions

Step 1

In order to archive a file, any archiver will do. WinZip, 7-Zip, WinRAR - these common programs are easy to find on the Internet. If none of them is installed, download and install it on your computer.

Step 2

Right-click on the file, select the "Add to archive … / Add to archive …" command. In the window that appears, we find the option "Divide into volumes of size …". Manually enter the size of the volume into which you want to split the archive. Most often, the size is indicated in bytes. We press "OK", confirming the choice.

Step 3

After performing this operation, we have two or more volumes that can be copied separately to different media. Each volume contains part of the information of the original file, and you cannot glue a file from one volume without the remaining volumes.

Step 4

We copy volumes to media and transfer to another computer. In order to unpack the split archive, copy all the parts into one folder. The Desktop will work as well, since it is also a folder.

Step 5

The file is extracted from the archive in the usual manner. With a double click of the mouse, go to any of the volumes. If all volumes with parts of the archive are found in one folder, the file will be unpacked without problems.

Now you know how you can split an archive and copy bulky files without having enough space on the media.
