It is customary to create archives to burn large files to DVD media. This can significantly reduce the size of some files. If, after compression, the data still does not fit on disk, you need to split it into multiple archives.

Instructions

Step 1

Install the archiver program. Better to use modern utilities like 7z. You can download the current version of the program on the official website https://www.7-zip.org/download.html. It allows you to achieve a high compression ratio. Restart your computer after installing the archiver. Open the My Computer menu and find the files you want to burn to disk. Copy them to a separate folder. If they are already part of the archive, then unpack the data.

Step 2

Right-click on the required archive and select "Extract files". Specify the folder where the unpacked data will be saved. After completing this procedure, right-click on this folder and move the cursor over item 7z. In the window that opens, select the "Add to archive" item. Wait for the archiver window to appear.

Step 3

In the "Archive" field, enter the name of the future 7z-file. Select the desired option under Compression Level. For maximum space savings, use the Ultra level. Find the item "Split into volumes by size".

Step 4

Enter the maximum size of one archive item or select the desired item from the pre-set options, for example 4480M - DVD. This will allow the program to create an archive, each part of which can fit on a blank DVD media.

Step 5

Click the Ok button and wait for the split archive to be created. If you used the "No compression" option, then this process will be completed quickly enough. To create a password-protected archive, fill in two fields in the "Encryption" menu.

Step 6

Remember that to connect the archive into a single whole, you will need all of its elements. It is quite difficult to restore the integrity of files in case of loss of at least one part of the archive.
