Many people prefer to do the maintenance of their computer at home without resorting to the services of service centers and workshops. But sometimes this requires certain knowledge and skills. For example, users often ask themselves the question: how to properly change the thermal paste on the processor? The answer to this question is very important, because the subsequent quality of the computer's work directly depends on the correctness of the actions.

Necessary

  • - thermal paste;
  • - dry lint-free cloth;
  • - alcohol;
  • - cotton pads (2-3 pieces).

Instructions

Step 1

Disconnect the system unit from power, all other wires and devices. Place it in a well-lit place so that the light falls into the open case and you do not have to blindly manipulate the inside of the system unit. Remove the side cover. For more convenience, you can lay the system unit on its side, open side up.

Step 2

Gently rotate the four corner cooler latches counterclockwise 90 degrees, thereby disconnecting the cooler from the motherboard. Clean the radiator, fan blades from dust. Remove the remnants of the old thermal paste with a dry cloth, then degrease the side of the cooler, which should be in contact with the processor, with a cotton pad moistened with alcohol or solvent / acetone.

Step 3

If the processor also has traces of thermal paste, it should be cleaned as well. To do this, bend the clip that holds the processor in the socket on the motherboard and pull it out very carefully. Clean, like the cooler, first with a rag, then with alcohol. Take your time, treating only the surface that is in contact with the cooler heatsink sole. After cleaning, put the processor back in place and snap the clip into place.

Step 4

Then, squeeze a small amount of thermal paste (approximately 3x3 mm) into the center of the contact surface of the processor. The thicker the paste, the more it will be needed. The optimal amount is established empirically. It is not necessary to smear it with anything in order to avoid the appearance of air bubbles and, as a result, poor thermal conductivity! After applying the paste, reinstall the cooler by snapping in the corner clips. As a result of the pressure, the paste itself will be distributed over the surface of the processor as needed.

Step 5

Close the side cover of the computer, reconnect all peripherals and power. Your computer is now ready for use again.
