Step 1
Remove the drivers for your sound card from the list of programs installed in the system in the control panel of your computer. Restart your computer, and then just in case, clean the operating system registry using specially designed utilities that can be found on the Internet.

You can also clear the registry from entries manually if you have the skills to work with it, but it is recommended to create a copy of the working system configuration first.

Download the latest stable version of drivers for your sound card from the official website of the device manufacturer, and then install them on your computer using the Add Hardware Wizard, or simply by running the downloaded software installer. Restart your computer and the sound settings will return to their original state.
Step 4
If you don't want to re-install the sound adapter drivers, return the sound settings to their default settings by rolling back the operating system state. This action should only be performed if no significant changes have been made since the installation of the sound card driver until the current date, since they will all be canceled.
Step 5
Open the Start menu and navigate to the list of standard utilities. Choose to restore the operating system, familiarize yourself with the main points of this operation.
Step 6
Save user files and program configuration settings that you will have to reinstall or configure in the future, start system restore, specifying a date as close as possible to the time you made changes to the sound adapter settings. Wait for the computer to restart and check if the sound is working.
