To protect information stored on your hard drive or USB drives, you need to set a password for certain files or folders. Unfortunately, the tools of the Windows operating system do not allow you to perform this important procedure.
Necessary
- - My Lockbox;
- - WinRar.
Instructions
Step 1
Download the My Lockbox utility. To do this, go to https://www.newsoftwares.net/folderlock/ and click the Free Download button. Install the program following the step-by-step menu that opens. After the installation of the utility components is complete, a new window appears.
Step 2
Enter the same password in the first two fields. Enter a word or phrase that will serve as a hint for the password. Don't neglect this feature. Quite often, users forget important passwords. Click Next several times to complete the installation of the program.
Step 3
Run the program and enter the password. Select the folder you want to close access to. Press the Lock button. Protect other folders in the same way.
Step 4
To access the files you need, reopen the program and enter the password. Select the desired directory from the list. All changes must be made exactly through the My Lockbox program, because the standard Windows Explorer will not display hidden directories.
Step 5
If you want to disable protection for a folder, select it in the program window and click the Unlock button. Enter your password and click the Ok button.
Step 6
If you do not want to hide folders and prefer to be able to open their contents on almost any computer, then use the WinRar program. Use it to create an archive with the "No compression" option. Set a password for this archive by filling in the appropriate fields.
Step 7
This will allow you to transfer files on USB-drives and work with them using any PC with WinRar (WinZip) archiver installed.
