Step 1
Check the components on your list for generational compatibility. Once every few years, manufacturers completely change the platform, and it is no longer possible to install old components on a new motherboard - they simply cannot be fixed.

Pay attention to the motherboard and processor. The name of these components contains the word socket, which means the type of processor "socket". If, for example, you have an AMD Athlon II X2 215 Socket AM3 processor, then you cannot install it in a motherboard with Socket 495 in the model name. Accordingly, a cooler for a processor should be similar in this parameter.
Step 3
Look at the type of RAM and the description of the motherboard specifications. If the memory is, for example, DDR3, then you will not be able to install it in a motherboard labeled 2 * DDR2. Typically, the basic information is found on the motherboard, which is the most important component in the computer. Next to the socket are described the types of devices that must be integrated for full operation.
Step 4
Make sure the hard drive and DVD drive have a suitable connector for the motherboard. You will not be able to connect SATA drives to an older model motherboard that has only an IDE connector (no additional cards).

Manufacturers of motherboards, processors and memory modules indicate on the official websites information about the equipment that is guaranteed to work in conjunction with their motherboards. Be sure to study this information. It will save you from difficult-to-diagnose errors when components from one manufacturer incorrectly identify components from another.
