Many people have long become accustomed not only to free phone calls over the Internet around the globe, but also to video calls and even video conferencing, which allow them to fully communicate with colleagues and friends around the world without getting out of their favorite chair. There are almost more models of laptops equipped with a built-in video camera than models without a camera.

However, users sometimes have difficulties with setting up this simple device. If you can't turn on the camera on your laptop, try these solutions:
1. First, try using the camera control software that comes with any laptop with a camera. If it is not in the Start menu, then you should use the CD-ROM that came with your laptop. If the camera works normally in such a program, then it is functional and correctly configured, and the problem is not with it, but in other applications in which you are trying to use the camera (as a rule, it is Skype or other means of communication).
2. Typically, a laptop keyboard has a key that (often in combination with the Fn function key) turns on the camera and launches the corresponding application. Take a close look at the keyboard, because you can usually guess the purpose of the function keys from the icons on them. If this fails, check the documentation for your computer. As a rule, the documentation is in electronic form on the CD that came with the laptop, and you can also find it on the manufacturer's website.
3. If you turn on the computer.
4. The camera can be disabled in BIOS. When the system boots, enter the BIOS, find the setting related to the webcam (as a rule, the word Cam appears there), and change its value from Disabled to Enabled. Boot the system again and check if the camera works.
5. No matter how simple and mass device a miniature laptop webcam is, it can also have a banal manufacturing defect. Contact the service center, the camera may just need to be replaced.
