The webcam is a versatile tool not only for making calls on the Internet. The device allows you to shoot video materials and take any photos. To take full advantage of the camera's functions, you need to install the required software or use the utility installed with the driver.
Program for changing driver settings
Some webcam manufacturers include video recording in their programs to manage driver settings. These applications are installed together with the driver itself from the disk that came with the device, or after downloading the driver package from the developer's official website. The program usually opens after clicking on the webcam icon in the lower right corner of the desktop.
You can also launch the utility using the shortcut on the desktop that appears after installing the driver (for example, LiveCam or WebCam, depending on the manufacturer of your device).
Go to the "Video recording" section and click on the button to start recording, after setting the necessary parameters in the corresponding section of the menu. After setup, start recording video. To complete the operation, you can click on the "Stop" button to end the recording. The desired video will be saved in the file system of your computer, and the folder for saving will be indicated in the "Settings" item or directly on the screen.
Third party programs
You can also use third-party applications to record video if the manufacturer's utility does not have the function of recording video files. Another well-known program is WebCamXP, which is very easy to use and allows you to quickly capture images without additional settings. More functional is the WebCamMax application, which allows you not only to record, but also to impose all kinds of effects on the video material.
Go to the official website of one of these programs and download its latest version using the desired section of the menu. Run the resulting installer file and follow the instructions on the screen to complete the installation.
Turn on your webcam. Double click on the shortcut of the installed application and wait for the settings window to appear. If the camera has been detected correctly, you will see the desired image on the screen.
To apply effects, also use the corresponding options on the screen.
The setup is complete and you can start recording video. All videos will be saved in the "My Videos" directory of the system or in the folder specified in the settings of the running application.
