Desktop icons are graphical links to launch programs or open documents. The programs installed on the computer during the installation process can create shortcuts for themselves on the desktop. The user also has this opportunity, and he has a choice of several ways to do it.
Instructions
Step 1
Right-click on your desktop background to access the "context menu". In it, expand the "Create" section and select "Shortcut". As a result of this action, the window of the wizard for creating a shortcut on the desktop will open.
Step 2
Click the "Browse" button and in the window that opens, find and click the file of the program or document, the icon of which you want to see on the desktop. Then, in the file search dialog, click the "OK" button, and in the shortcut wizard window, click the "Next" button.
Step 3
Type the text of the signature under the created shortcut and click on the "Finish" button. The wizard will close and the shortcut will appear on the desktop.
Step 4
There is another way that allows you to create a whole group of shortcuts at the same time. To use it, you need to launch Windows Explorer. You can do this by double-clicking on the My Computer icon on your desktop or by pressing the win + e keyboard shortcut. Then, using the folder tree in the left pane of Explorer, navigate to the directory containing the files you would like to place shortcuts on your desktop.
Step 5
Highlight the required file or group of files. To select a group, you can click the first file in the list, then hold down the shift key and use the arrow keys to select subsequent files. And you can click all the necessary files with the mouse while holding down the ctrl key.
Step 6
Drag the selected file (or group of files) to the desktop using the right mouse button. When you release the button, Explorer will show a menu with a set of commands - select "Create shortcuts" and this will complete the operation.
Step 7
If the link to the program whose icon you need on the desktop is in the main menu on the "Start" button, then from there you can also drag it to the desktop with the right mouse button. But in this case, after you release the button, you must select either the "Copy" item in the menu (if you also need to leave a link to the program in the main menu), or "Move" (if the link in the main menu is no longer needed).
