Often times, desktop icons take up so much free space that there is simply not enough space for them. In addition, sometimes they spoil the appearance. If in newer versions of Windows their resizing is configured at the user's choice in the control panel or by holding down the Ctrl key and scrolling the mouse wheel, then in XP and earlier operating systems everything looks much more complicated.
Instructions
Step 1
Right-click on a shortcut-free area of the desktop, open Properties. Select the last tab - "Options".
Step 2
Move the screen resolution indicator to the right to select the optimal increase in pixels per inch, while respecting the aspect ratio of your monitor. The higher the value, the smaller the desktop icons will look. If suddenly the function of changing the resolution is not available to you, try changing the monitor connection module in the drop-down menu at the top.
Step 3
At the same time, keep in mind that not only they will change the size, but also fonts, windows and everything else. Adjust the font size on the penultimate tab of the open window by clicking the "Advanced" button. Select the element for which you want to change the font, adjust the configuration according to your preferences, and apply the changes.
Step 4
If necessary, change the wallpaper on your desktop, because the higher the resolution you set, the more you will need a picture for your desktop. If earlier a small-sized image was used as wallpaper, then in new conditions it will look even smaller due to an increase in image quality.
Step 5
Use the alternative icon resizing option. To do this, open the properties of the desktop. In the new window that appears, select the "Design" tab, then click on the "Settings" button. Select "Shortcut" from the drop-down menu. Specify a value for the size of its image on the right, apply and save the changes.
Step 6
Decrease the font size so that it doesn't appear out of proportion to your icons. Do this while in the same menu item by selecting just below the options for the font settings shortcut. Apply and save the new parameters.
