The decision to change the operating system to Linux comes to many of us. The choice of a distribution kit is often long-term, up to tens of years. That is why it is worth paying careful attention to choosing a Linux build, so that later you do not regret wasting time wasted on installing and configuring the system that is not suitable for you.

Step 1
First, decide - what do you need Linux for? Maybe you should just clean your computer or reinstall Windows? Since most people don't want to change their habits, Linux can be a source of stress for you or your employees. Perhaps after the first days of use, the desire to use Linux in everyday and work tasks will disappear.
Step 2
If you want to install the system and immediately start working on the computer, your choice can stop at assemblies of Manjaro, Linux Mint, Ubuntu, Fedora with the KDE, Gnome, MATE and Cinnamon graphical shells.
Step 3
If your computer is not very powerful, but you still do not want to bother with configuration, then it makes sense to choose one of the assemblies mentioned above, but with more "lightweight" graphical shells LXDE or XFCE. Also take a look at the graphical versions of Debian, which many popular distributions are based on.
Step 4
If you want to understand the system better, to customize every aspect of the system for yourself, then it is better to choose distributions with a minimum of preinstalled programs, for example ArchLinux, Gentoo, Debian, Slackware. Later on any of these systems, you can put any graphical environment and use it for your own pleasure.
Step 5
If you are choosing a system for a server, then it would be most correct to choose the lightest version of the system, probably without different graphics, i.e. something from the previous paragraph. Or vice versa - choose specially prepared for servers builds of popular distributions Debian, Ubuntu, CentOS.
