Microsoft Office Excel spreadsheet program allows you to analyze data, work with formulas, pivot tables, charts. The toolkit of the application is quite wide, it will not be possible to master it in a couple of hours, but constant practice opens up many opportunities for the user.

Step 1
One should start acquaintance with any program from its interface, and Excel is no exception. Run the application, an empty book will be automatically created. First, explore all the tools on the Home tab and the commands available from the Office button in the upper-left corner of the window. The toolbars on the other tabs (Formulas, Data, Developer) are used as needed to perform specific tasks, and what is on the Home tab is almost always needed to work.
Step 2
Enter data in several cells, learn to move around the sheet not only with the mouse, but also with the keys on the keyboard. Learn how to edit data in the cell itself and in the formula bar. Select one cell, row, or column and explore the commands available from the right-click context menu of the selection. Check out ready-made formulas and thumbnails for graphs and charts. Examine the formatting parameters of the cell.
Step 3
After you learn how to navigate the document and tools, set yourself a specific task, for example, using a formula to deduce the sum of the values in a given column. Do not immediately take on incomprehensible and complex tasks, if you understand the principle and logic of elementary operations, it will be easier for you to achieve results in further work.
Step 4
Learn Excel gradually, go from simple to complex. From entering and editing data, proceed to the design of tables, then learn how to work with formulas, lists and databases. Learn to install add-ons, use controls and macros. Most importantly, do not just learn about the program's capabilities, but immediately try to apply them in practice.
Step 5
It is best to purchase a self-study guide. It's not just good because it explains the purpose of each button or function. The main value of the tutorial is the presence of tasks that need to be completed after each chapter, because only in practice can the knowledge gained be consolidated. If you don't have any reference books at hand, use the built-in assistant. It is invoked with the F1 key.
