Instructions
Step 1
Connect the removable disk to the USB port on your computer that should be turned on. Open its contents in autorun using Explorer or through the "Start" - "My Computer" - "Removable Disk" menu. Move all the information you need for further work from removable media to the internal memory of the computer. Make sure that no important data is left on the external drive and start formatting.
Step 2
Open My Computer. Right-click on the icon of your removable disk, select "Properties". In the dialog box that opens, look at the current file system.
Step 3
In the "My Computer" menu, right-click on the removable disk and select "Format". In the drop-down menu, define the file system in which you are going to work in the future. It is best to choose NTFS because it provides the fastest and fastest file copying.
Step 4
Enter the name of the removable disk in the “Volume label” field, which will be convenient for you in the future. If you want to do the usual formatting, then put a tick in the "Clear the table of contents" box. In this case, if you suddenly need to recover deleted files, there will be a high probability that you will succeed.
Step 5
If you need full formatting, and not clearing the table of contents, do not check the corresponding box and click "Start", in this case, the procedure will completely delete all data from the disk, and they will not be available for recovery later. However, it is best not to do a quick format, as completely deleting files from the disk will provide better performance.
Step 6
To check if the change to the file system was correct, reconnect the removable disk to the computer and look in its properties to see what options are displayed after formatting. Also pay attention to the hard disk space.
