It may happen that you someday need to connect a hard drive from an ordinary stationary computer to a laptop, for example, to transfer a large amount of information. Luckily, you will already know how to do this.
Instructions
Step 1
Purchase a special adapter (adapter) that allows you to transfer information from a conventional hard drive via a USB connection. Modern adapters support both the transition from SATA to USB, and from IDE to USB, while they can have small network adapters for additional power to the hard drive, and also support hard drives of 2, 5 and 3.5 inch form factors.
Step 2
After you have found the adapter you need, connect it to the hard drive using the required connector. Accordingly, the IDE interface needs a wide connector, and the SATA interface needs a small plug.
Step 3
Connect the USB connector coming from the adapter to the laptop's USB controller. In this case, the hard drive will work as a regular USB drive. If your adapter has an LED indicator, make sure it is giving positive signals.
Step 4
If you have a hard drive with a SATA interface, and the adapter provides power only for hard drives with an IDE interface (four thick pins), then purchase a special adapter from power supply for IDE to power supply for SATA, but in no case vice versa (it happens that this adapter may not be included in the package). Make sure the power connector for the IDE on the adapter is a plug and not a jack.
Step 5
Don't worry about which operating system is installed on your laptop, modern adapters work with systems from Win98 to Vista and Mac.
Step 6
Just in case, it would be best to additionally consult with the seller in the computer accessories store. Tell him what kind of hard drive and to which laptop you are going to connect. He will definitely select the best option for your goals and will probably give you additional recommendations.
