Step 1
If you want to connect your Acer laptop to your computer monitor, then start by identifying the appropriate ports. Modern mobile computers have VGA (D-Sub) and HDMI video outputs. Less common is the DVI port.
Step 2
Monitors usually have VGA and DVI links. Newer Full HD displays can sometimes have an HDMI port. Purchase a cable of the correct format and an adapter, if necessary. The presence of certain adapters allows you to connect the HDMI-Out and DVI-In ports. This is very important in situations where you need to connect your laptop to a monitor or TV.
Step 3
Turn on the mobile computer and wait for the operating system to load. Connect the monitor to AC power. Now connect these two devices together using the selected cable and adapter.
Step 4
Wait for the image to appear on the external display. If you are using Windows Seven or Vista on your mobile computer, open the Start menu and go to Control Panel.
Step 5
Select the "Personalize" submenu and go to "Connect to an external display". Select the mode of synchronous operation of the two displays that is acceptable to you. If you want to use only the monitor screen, then select its graphic image in the working window and activate the item "Make this display the main one".
Step 6
In the next field, select the option "Duplicate Screen" and just close the laptop lid. Make sure that you are not configured to turn off your computer automatically when you close the lid.
Step 7
If you want to use both displays, select Extend This Screen. In this case, it is better to use the laptop display as the main screen. This will prevent image distortion that may result from display resolution incompatibilities.
