The BIOS stores the basic hardware and firmware settings for your computer to boot it up. The user does not often have to enter the BIOS, but sometimes it becomes necessary.
Instructions
Step 1
In many laptop models, when the system starts, the user is given a hint about how to enter the BIOS - for example, the message Press Del to enter setup appears on the screen - "Press Del to enter the settings." Pressing Del while this text is on the screen will open the BIOS.
Step 2
The Del key is the standard way to enter BIOS, but it is implemented differently on some laptops. If you can't log in with Del, try other options - F1, F2, F3, F10, Esc, Ctl + alt="Image" + Esc, Ctrl + alt="Image" + S, Ctrl + alt="Image" + Ins … Such a variety of options for entering the BIOS gives users inconvenience, but manufacturers are in no hurry to standardize this procedure. In most cases, you enter the BIOS by pressing the Del, F1, or F2 keys.
Step 3
What settings can I make in the BIOS? Most often, the user is faced with the need to enter the BIOS when installing the operating system or in any other case when he needs to boot from a CD. Many computer manufacturers give the user the ability to call the boot menu by pressing the F12 key, which is very convenient. But if this option is missing, you have to enter the BIOS and put the CD-ROM drive as the primary boot device. When installing Windows, you should not miss the moment and after the first automatic restart of the computer, enter the settings again and return the boot from the hard disk.
Step 4
It is in the BIOS that you can configure the processor's operation. Sometimes, for a variety of reasons, its settings are suboptimal. For example, the processor frequency is 2000 MHz. By changing the system bus frequency, 2000 MHz can be obtained as 166 × 12, 200 × 10, 333 × 6. The last option will be the most advantageous, since increasing the system bus frequency increases the overall performance of the computer.
Step 5
When making certain changes in the BIOS, do not forget to save them. To do this, you usually need to press F10 or select the Save and exit setup line in the main BIOS menu. A window will appear in which to confirm the save, you must enter Y and press Enter.
