VPN is a virtual network that exists “on top” of the Internet. Various computers around the world can be connected to a VPN connection. Typically, these types of connections are based on PPTP or Ethernet (PPPoE). When configured correctly, such a network ensures the security of clients using encryption. You can configure VPN using standard operating system tools.
Necessary
- - computer;
- - the Internet;
- - server data;
- - anti-virus software.
Instructions
Step 1
Start "Network Neighborhood". This can be done from the start menu of the operating system. Click on the "Create a new connection" button on the left side of the "Network Neighborhood" window. The wizard for configuring new connections will start. Click "Next", and in the next window, set the selection to "Connect to the network" at the workplace. Click Next again. You can also go through the shortcut "My Computer" and select the tab in the left corner called "Control Panel". There are a lot of ways on a computer, since the operating system is a universal set of tools.
Step 2
Select "Connect to VPN" in the next window. Specify a name for the connection (it can be any) and set the choice on the item "Do not dial the number for preliminary connection". This point is very important for a new server connection on a personal computer.
Step 3
Enter the name of the server you need to connect to or its IP address. Check the box next to Add a shortcut to the desktop connection and click Finish. A connection shortcut will appear on the desktop in the form of connected miniature computers with the name you specified in the previous paragraph.
Step 4
You just need to start the connection by double-clicking on the VPN shortcut. If you do not want to type your username and password over and over again, click on the "Properties" button and set them on one of the tabs, and also uncheck the "Request username and password" item. It is also worth noting that in this case, data to the server will be stored in the operating system, namely on the hard drives of the computer. Some viruses can steal this information, which can later be used for insidious purposes, so install licensed software on your personal computer.
