Step 1
Select the program to install the virtual machine. First, you can use Microsoft Virtual PC 2007 to emulate the Windows XP operating system. This program works only with the OS of the Windows family, the program is free and can be downloaded from the official website. The leader in the development of virtual machines is VMware Player 3.1. Thanks to it, the user can install a large number of systems, both Windows and Unix. The youngest program for OS emulation is Oracle VM VirtualBox 4.0, which supports Windows, MAC OS, Linux, Solaris systems.
Step 2
Create a virtual machine using VirtualBox. Download the program from the manufacturer's website www.virtualbox.org and install it on your computer. Then start the program, click on the "Create" button. In the window that opens next, click the "Next" button
Step 3
Enter a name for the virtual machine, select the operating system and version from the list. Click on the "Forward" button. Next, a window will open with the settings of the virtual machine, install the necessary for emulating Windows XP, click the "Finish" button.
Step 4
Set in the next window the amount of RAM allocated for the virtual machine, by default you can use 512 MB, but if your computer has more than 2 GB of RAM, you can use more. Click Forward. In the hard disk settings, leave all the default values, then click on "Forward" and at the end on "Finish".
Step 5
Download the installation disk image to your computer to emulate XP. Select the virtual machine with the left mouse button, click "Start", in the next window "Next". Specify the path to the disk image, click on the "Open" button, then follow the instructions of the installer until the OS installer starts. Accept the installation to the virtual hard disk and wait for the system to install.
Step 6
After rebooting, enter your username, click Next, enter your password and hint, click Next. Select your time zone, computer location. The virtual machine installation is complete.
