A sound card is a device that implements multimedia technology. It is designed for playing and recording sound, processing sound files and editing them. A sound card converts a digital signal from a computer into an analog sound signal (which you hear in speakers, headphones) and vice versa. How can you determine the type of sound card?
Instructions
Step 1
Turn on the computer, go to "Start - Programs - Accessories - System Tools - System Information". Select the "Sound device" component in the window that opens. On the right side of this window, you will see the type of your sound card. But this method is not always effective. If you have an integrated (built-in) sound card, the computer may not detect its type due to lack of drivers. But here you can go the other way. Knowing the type of motherboard, go to the manufacturer's website and find out which sound card is installed on it.
Step 2
Launch "Device Manager", double-click on the "Sound, video and game controllers" tab. In the drop-down list, you will see which sound card you have installed.
Step 3
Open the side cover of the computer system unit and you will see a sound card. It is located on the motherboard. You can determine it by the corresponding connectors, inputs / outputs designed for connecting speakers, speaker system, microphone, voice recorder, electronic musical instrument. But manufacturers do not always indicate the type of sound card on the body of the card itself. In addition, if the system unit is under warranty, you cannot break the seal, otherwise you will void the warranty.
Step 4
Install special programs that will help you identify the hardware installed on your personal computer, from the keyboard to the motherboard. The most widely used programs are: SiSoftware Sandra, Aida, Unknown Device Identifier, Everest.
