Automatic pagination is one of the handy and simple tools in Microsoft Word. When preparing a document for printing, it only takes a minute to add page numbers as needed, at the beginning or at the end of the page. If the document being prepared has a title page, the number must be removed from it. According to the design requirements, the numbering starts only from the second (first after the title) page.
Necessary
Computer, Microsoft Word program, basic computer skills
Instructions
Step 1
You can add page numbers in the "Insert" tab of the main menu, the required line is called "Page numbers", or using the "Headers and footers" toolbar. However, you cannot remove numbering from any of the pages using these tools, you can only apply this function completely to the entire document.
Step 2
In order to remove the number from the first page of the document, in the "File" tab of the main menu, select the "Page settings" line and click on it with the left mouse button. In the window that opens, go to the "Paper source" tab.
Step 3
Find in the tab the inscription "Distinguish headers and footers", under it, opposite the line "First page", put a check mark. After that, the number from the first page will be deleted. In this case, the page numbering will begin on the second page with the number "2".
Step 4
To start the numbering with the number "1", open the "View" item in the main menu and activate the "Headers and Footers" toolbar by simply clicking on it with the mouse. In the panel that appears, click on the "Page number format" icon with the left mouse button. At the bottom of this tool's window, there is a Page Numbering item. Check the line "Start with" and set the value to "0". The title page is now considered "zero" and numbering will start from the second page of the document.
