The higher the clock speed of the processor, the higher its performance, if the rest of its parameters remain unchanged. Of course, you can "increase" the processor frequency by replacing it with an older and more expensive model, but this operation, of course, is not free. How can you increase the clock speed of the processor without financial investment?

It is necessary

Computer, processor, BIOS skills, knowledge of English sufficient to read the instructions for the motherboard and understand the meaning of BIOS settings

Instructions

Step 1

Raising the processor clock speed beyond the factory-set one is called "overclocking" or "overclocking". Overclocking the processor increases its heat dissipation and increases the load on the processor-related elements of the computer, for example, RAM. Before overclocking, check that the CPU and case coolers provide adequate cooling. If the temperature of the processor cores in the "no overclocking" state is higher than 50 degrees, increasing the frequency without improving cooling is simply contraindicated.

Step 2

If the cooling works effectively, start the overclocking procedure. Go to the BIOS control panel of your motherboard, to do this, immediately after turning on (rebooting) the computer, press the F2, DEL or F1 key, depending on the motherboard model. In the BIOS menu bar, find the Processor Performance Management tab. It can be called differently, the instructions for the motherboard in the BIOS section indicate exactly how.

Step 3

Raise the system bus frequency of the processor. In BIOS, this characteristic is usually referred to as "CPU Clock" or "CPU Frequency". To do this, set the required value in the corresponding line.

Step 4

The clock frequency of the processor cores is the result of multiplying the frequency of its system bus by a factor. As a result, the processor can be overclocked by increasing the value of this parameter. But in most processors, the multiplier is locked and cannot be changed. Only on AMD Black series processors and Intel Extreme processors, the multiplier value can be changed. If your processor allows this, raise the multiplier value on the processor options page in the BIOS.
