Sometimes a disc with important and necessary information cannot be read, or there is a crack on it, which makes it dangerous to insert such a medium into the drive. It is possible that the disc drive is very noisy, especially when watching movies. In such cases, the best solution is to change the read speed of the disks, namely, to limit the rotational speed of the drive spindle.
Instructions
Step 1
Download a program to control the speed of rotation of the disk in the drive. Launch any browser and enter the following text in the address bar: https://www.cdslow.webhost.ru/cdslow/ or https://www.cdspeed2000.com/download.html. Click on the link to download the installation file or archive to work without installation. The first link leads to the site of the author of the Russian utility CDSlow, a free tool for managing disk drives. The second link allows you to download a trial version of one of the programs in the Nero suite for 30 days.
Step 2
When choosing, keep in mind that Nero provides more options for diagnosing the parameters and capabilities of your equipment, has a beautiful interface and a wide range of parameters. However, it is paid and more difficult to use. The Russian utility is distributed without restrictions on the term of use, does not have additional functions and is fully controlled from the system area of the screen. Both the one and the other programs quite cope with their main task - sets the maximum speed of reading disks.
Step 3
Install or extract the program from the archive. Double-click on the.exe file to launch the installation wizard, and then answer the questions - that is, click the "Next" or Next button. If you downloaded the zip archive, just right click on the file, select Extract and select the appropriate folder. There is no fundamental difference between these options. It's just that it is more convenient for someone to get a shortcut on the desktop to launch the program, while for someone, on the contrary, it is more convenient to launch the utility as needed from a folder on a hard disk or flash drive.
Step 4
Activate the program. Click on the desktop shortcut or on the CDSlow executable file in the program folder. In the lower right corner of the screen, near the clock, you will see a stylized disk icon. Hover your mouse over this icon and left-click to bring up the menu and change the read speed of the discs. You will see a line with the name of your computer's drive or drives. Above, the current speed will be indicated as "x48" or similar.
Step 5
Click on this label to change the current settings and set the desired speed. The lower the number, the slower the drive will run. Through the menu of the right mouse button, you can call the settings window and select the automatic launch of the program along with Windows, as well as other operation parameters.
