Changing the keyboard input language is the result of the layout change operation. "Layout" refers to a table in which each key (or keyboard shortcut) has a specific character associated with it. The command to switch from the layout, in which the letters of the keys are associated with the characters of the Russian alphabet, to the English one can be submitted both using the mouse and from the keyboard.

Instructions

Step 1

Use the hotkey combination assigned to this operation by default to change the input language. The most commonly used combination is alt="Image" + shift, a little less often - ctrl + shift. This combination can be changed if desired. To do this, right-click on the currently used language pointer in the notification area of the taskbar (tray). The context menu will open, in which you should select the "Parameters" item. As a result, a window of the "Languages and text input services" system component will open.

Step 2

Click on the "Keyboard Options" button located in the "Settings" section of the "Options" tab. In the next window, select the item "Switch between input languages" in the list of "Keyboard shortcuts for input languages" and click on the button "Change keyboard shortcuts". The next window that opens will finally contain options for keyboard shortcuts that can be assigned to the operation of changing the input language - choose the most convenient option. Then click on the "OK" button, close all intermediate windows and this will complete the replacement of hotkeys of the layout change operation.

Step 3

Use your mouse to change the input language without using the keyboard. To do this, click the cursor of the current keyboard language in the tray with the left mouse button and select the line with the required language in the pop-up context menu. If the icon with the input language designation is not in the tray, then right-click on the taskbar and select the "Language bar" line in the "Toolbars" section of the context menu. The language indicator will appear on the taskbar, but you can move it to any convenient location on the screen. To do this, open the context menu by clicking the right mouse button and select the "Restore" item - the language bar will detach from the taskbar and it will become possible to drag it across the screen by clicking the left mouse button on the left edge.
