To begin with, it should be noted that the expression "format the modem" does not make sense, since this is not a hard drive. The modem can be restored if it is out of order. Therefore, if it malfunctions, do not throw it away, at least until you are sure that the device is already beyond recovery.
Instructions
Step 1
Consider the situation with a specific type of these devices - USB modems that work by using SIM cards of mobile phones - and the Windows XP operating system, the most common.
Step 2
First, call the "Start" menu by clicking the left mouse button on the corresponding button in the lower left corner of the screen. From the menu that opens, select "My Computer" by right-clicking on it. A list of commands will open - you need the most recent one, which is called "Properties".
Step 3
Open the tab called "Device Manager", after which a window will appear with the equipment currently connected. Select your modem in it and open its properties.
Step 4
Each provider company has its own technical support service. For example, if you use the services of the Megafon operator, the number you need to call will be 0500. Contacting the technical support service, find out what the settings for your USB modem should be, not forgetting to indicate which model it has. Enter the received data in the "Properties" item, and then save them. Create a connection with new parameters.
Step 5
If this method is not successful, then try the next option. Determine the model of the USB modem by reading this information from the instructions for the device or by looking at the device itself - there should be a sticker with the necessary information on it.
Step 6
Next, download the necessary software for flashing the device from the Internet. Keep in mind that the modem's firmware must be performed on the PC on which the Windows operating system is installed.
Step 7
After downloading the firmware, just in case, check it for viruses using the antivirus software that should be installed at the moment. Then remove the sim card from the modem, close the program on the PC that is responsible for its (modem) operation.
Step 8
Connect the modem to the computer, run the program for flashing, then wait until the procedure for replacing and updating files is completed. If a window appears on the screen asking you to specify the path to the modem driver, specify the folder where the software installed for it is located.
Step 9
If your modem does not want to work even after flashing, check the software version of your modem model for compliance. If you have not previously installed the firmware from a netbook or laptop, do not do this. This can damage the laptop system and possibly the modem as well. It is better to contact the specialists of the service center.
