It happens that an ordinary computer hard drive suddenly refuses to spin up. In this case, it is necessary to force it to spin up at least once, after which, while it is still working, transfer the data from it to another as soon as possible.

Instructions

Step 1

Shut down the computer operating system (if the stopped drive is not a system drive), and then disconnect the machine from the network physically.

Step 2

Disconnect all cables from the hard drive, remembering how and where they were connected.

Step 3

Remove the drive. Examine the board carefully for obvious damage, such as blackened, charred parts. If they are, then it is not the mechanical part that is damaged. Send the drive in for repair, and it will probably serve you for a very long time after that.

Step 4

If the board is not damaged, try wedging the stuck drive bearing. Take it in your hands, and then sharply spin it around the axis of the engine.

Step 5

Connect the hard drive back to the computer, secure it, turn on the computer, and then check if it spins up.

Step 6

If the hard drive spins up and the computer boots up, connect the removable hard drive to it as soon as possible and transfer all data from the damaged one to it. Or, if your computer has other hard drives and there is enough free space on them, transfer the data to them.

Step 7

If the hard drive does not spin up, repeat the procedure a few more times, each time before turning off the computer physically.

Step 8

After several unsuccessful attempts to spin up the hard drive yourself, give it to a company that specializes in data recovery. Do not try to disassemble the drive - this will only exacerbate the malfunction, and information recovery will cost more.

Step 9

Immediately, as soon as all recoverable information has been removed from the hard drive, replace it with another one. If it was bootable, reinstall the operating system and all applications, restore the settings.

Step 10

In the future, use a hard disk that at least once refused to spin up, only for transferring information, but not for storing it. Use it to transfer only irrelevant information.
