Special fans are installed inside the computer system unit. Their main purpose is to provide cooling for critical devices. Failure of one of the coolers can lead to overheating of several PC elements at once.

Necessary

  • - crosshead screwdriver;
  • - Silicone Grease;
  • - tweezers.

Instructions

Step 1

If you notice that one of the coolers has stopped working, first find out the cause of the problem. Open the BIOS menu and make sure Fan Control is not set to Disabled. If the cooling function is active, then turn off the computer and open the system unit. Find out if the cooler power cable is plugged in. Typically, fans get the electricity they need through pins on the motherboard or device they are connected to.

Step 2

Try plugging the cooler cable into a different connector. Turn on the computer and check if the fan is working. Try to turn the fan blades yourself. Occasionally a large amount of dust is the cause of the device shutdown. If the cooler does not start spinning, then turn off the PC again. Disconnect fan power and remove this device. Usually, this requires unscrewing a few screws or opening special latches.

Step 3

Peel off the sticker from the fan and drip some lubricant into the opening that opens. Move the fan blades to allow the grease to be distributed axially. After that, the blades should rotate freely.

Step 4

If you find a plug under the sticker, remove it from its slot and carefully pull out the retaining ring. Remove the blades from the axle and wipe both elements with a dry cloth. Lubricate the pivot shaft and reassemble the fan.

Step 5

Connect the device to the system board and reinstall it. Turn on the computer and check that the fan is working properly. If none of the above methods helped to restore the cooler's performance, replace this device.
