Changing the Windows XP serial number (code) will require the computer user to have administrator access to be able to make changes to the Windows operating system registry entries. It also assumes that you have sufficient experience with a computer.
Instructions
Step 1
Click the Start button to enter the main system menu and go to Run to invoke the command line tool.
Step 2
Enter regedit in the Open field and press the OK button or the Enter softkey to confirm the command.
Step 3
Go to the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESoftwareMicrosoftWindowsNTCurrentVersionWPAEvents branch and select the oobetimer parameter folder.
Step 4
Change the value of the selected option to deactivate Windows registration and click OK to apply the changes.
Step 5
Exit the Registry Editor tool.
Step 6
Return to the main Start menu and go to Run to invoke the command line utility.
Step 7
Enter the value% systemroot% system32oobemsoobe.exe / a and press the softkey labeled Enter or the OK button to confirm the command.
Step 8
Select the "Windows Activation" item and go to the "Phone Activation" section in the window that opens.
Step 9
Click the Next button and expand the Change Serial Number link.
Step 10
Enter the value for the new key and click the Update button to apply the selected command.
Step 11
Click on the window close icon (the cross in the upper right corner of the window) when a dialog box appears with a proposal to activate Windows by phone.
Step 12
Restart your computer to apply the selected changes.
Step 13
Click the Start button to bring up the Windows main menu and go to Run to launch the command line tool.
Step 14
Enter% systemroot% system32oobemsoobe.exe / a in the Open field and press the OK button or the Enter soft key to confirm the command.
Step 15
Wait until the message “Windows is already activated” appears, which confirms the successful operation of changing the serial number (code) of Windows.
