Closing access to certain sites can be carried out both by means of the system, and with the help of specialized programs. Both methods will help keep your child from viewing inappropriate content and visiting certain sites.
Instructions
Step 1
To block access to any specific resource, you can edit the system hosts file. All unnecessary addresses are filtered through it. If this or that site is in the list of this document, you will not be able to access the resource.
Step 2
The hosts file is located in the Windows system directory. Go to "Start" - "Computer" - "Local drive C:". Then select the Windows directory - System32 - Drivers - Etc. Find hosts among the list of proposed documents. If it is not displayed in the folder, then the attribute is set to "Hidden". To show hidden files, click on "Tools" - "Folder Options" at the top of the "Explorer" window. In the new window, select the "View" tab. Highlight "Show hidden files and folders" and then click "OK".
Step 3
Right-click on the hosts file and select "Open With". In the list of suggested options, select Notepad. At the end of the document that appears, add a line like this:
127.0.0.1 site_to_block
"Site_to_block" corresponds to the Internet address of the resource to which you want to deny access.
Step 4
Specify the list of resources that the child is prohibited from viewing, and then save the changes by clicking on "File" - "Save". You will need to restart your computer for the settings to take effect.
Step 5
To block access to sites, you can also use specialized utilities. Among the programs helping to restrict children's access to the Internet, one can mention Zillya, Internet Censor, NetPolice, etc. These applications have similar functionality and with their help you can block access even by words that are present on a particular page.
Step 6
Install the selected program on your computer and launch it using the shortcut on your desktop. In the utility window, specify the password to access the settings and specify the list of sites to which you want to close the view. Save the changes and check access to the resources included in the denied list.
