There are two main ways to password-protect your computer. One of them uses the security policy of the operating system - in this case, the password will be requested after loading the OS, when the user logs into his "account". Another method is tied to the BIOS - a set of firmware placed in a microcircuit on the motherboard and providing initial check and initialization of the computer systems when it is turned on to the network.

Step 1
Press the win key or click on the "Start" button. If you have not changed the default appearance of the main menu, then the avatar and username will be present in its header - click on the avatar to open the "User Accounts" window. In the window that opens, press the "Home" button to go to the main window of this OS component. If you have the "classic" view of the main menu enabled, then you can get to the same window by selecting the "Control Panel" item in the menu and clicking on the "User Accounts" link.
Step 2
Select your account at the bottom of this window, and in the next window click on the "Create password" link. You will be prompted for a form in which you must enter the password twice, as well as a phrase that can serve as a hint in case you forget this password. After filling out the form, click the "Create Password" button.

There is another authorization method that is not tied to the operating system. When using it, the password will be requested at the stage of turning on the computer, before loading the OS. To set such a password, you need to enter the panel for changing BIOS settings (Basic Input / Output System - "Basic input / output system"). To do this, initiate a reboot of the operating system, and when the OS is completed and the BIOS begins the procedure for checking computer devices, wait until the LED indicators on the keyboard blink and press the Delete key. Most often, it is she who is used to enter the BIOS settings, but other options are also possible - for example, the function buttons f1, f2, f10, the esc key, the combinations ctrl + alt, ctrl + alt="Image" + esc, ctrl + alt=" Image "+ ins.
Step 4
Select BIOS Setting Password and press Enter. Then type the password in the field that appears and press Enter again. BIOS will ask you to confirm the entered password - press Enter again. After that, select the Save and Exit Setup item to save the changes made in the BIOS settings and initiate a new start of the computer.
