Log files are used to record certain events related to the execution of the computer's usual tasks. They often have to be cleaned after a certain period of time in order to optimize the work on the computer in the current operating system.
Instructions
Step 1
In the properties of the "My Computer" menu, select the item responsible for management. In Windows Seven and Windows Vista, this item is listed on the left side of the My Computer menu bar. You can also launch this menu from the "Administration" in the control panel. A special management console should appear on your screen.
Step 2
When working with log files, be sure to pay attention to account restrictions, since all actions must be performed only by the administrator. Guests and other restricted accounts will not be able to do this.
Step 3
Find the Event Viewer and Utilities Viewer items in the Computer Management menu. Carefully review each of their sections, then decide which ones you want to remove.
Step 4
In the event viewer, clear the logs of the Windows operating system by selecting it with the left mouse button. Expand the "Action" item, and then launch its context menu by selecting the right mouse button.
Step 5
In the window displayed on your screen, select the item with the name "Erase all events" and, if you really want to do this, confirm the operation in the dialog box that appears. Wait until the end of deleting the contents of the log files from your computer.
Step 6
Use special computer optimization programs to clean up log files in a clearer and faster manner, usually they can also be configured to automatically clean their contents. Usually, clearing logs is a minor task of such programs, but they can be useful for speeding up the computer, removing unused services and ending unnecessary processes. They also perform disk defragmentation, error correction, cleaning up RAM, and so on.
