Nowadays, almost no one buys separate sound cards. In modern motherboards, sound cards are integrated, which provides good sound quality. But as with any other equipment, sound cards can also malfunction. Very often, the absence of sound on the computer can be corrected by reinstalling the driver on the sound card.
Necessary
Computer, TuneUp Utilities program, Internet access
Instructions
Step 1
You can find out which driver is needed using the system method and using special utilities. Right-click on the My Computer icon and select the Device Manager option. Find the line "Sound devices" and opposite it, click on the arrow. The name of the sound card installed on your computer will appear. Knowing its name, download the required driver from the Internet.
Step 2
If you opened the "Sound devices" tab, and instead of the name of your sound card it says "Unknown hardware", then use another method. Download TuneUp Utilities, a diagnostic and tuning program for your computer. Install it on your computer.
Step 3
Run the program. After the first launch, it will start scanning your computer for problems. If you want, you can interrupt this process by clicking "Cancel". If you wait until the scan is complete, agree to the program's suggestion to fix the problems. Now you have access to the main menu of the program.
Step 4
In the upper window of the program, select the "Fix problems" tab and click on the "Show system information" line. Next, select the "Devices" tab. Pay attention to the bottommost window "Sound devices". In this window, find the inscription "Line In". Opposite this inscription there will be a line with the name of the driver that your sound card uses. This window will also display additional information about the audio hardware of your computer.
Step 5
To search for drivers, you can use an Internet browser or download the DriverPack Solution program. It will automatically find and install drivers for your sound card.
