The compatibility of many programs depends not only on the version of the operating system, but also on its assembly. For example, some games and programs require only the latest build of the OS to install, otherwise they will not start. This is especially true for Windows XP.

Instructions
Step 1
There are several ways to find out the build of the operating system. The first way. Click the Start button. Then select "All Programs" and go to "Standard Programs". In standard programs, click on "Command Line". At the command prompt, enter the Winver command and press the Enter key. After a few seconds, information about your operating system, including its assembly, will appear. Alternatively, you can enter the Slmgr.vbs –dlv command at the command line.
Step 2
You can also find out the assembly in the "properties" of your system. To do this, right-click on "My Computer" and select "Properties". A window will appear with information about your system and its version. Please note - this method, unlike the first, is not universal. In some cases, the build version of Windows will not be listed in the Windows information.
Step 3
If you need more detailed information on building the operating system, use the TuneUp Utilities program. The utility is commercial. Download it and install it on your computer.
Step 4
Run the TuneUp Utilities program. After its first launch, wait until the collection of information about your system is complete. This process can take several minutes. Also, upon completion, a dialog box may appear asking you to fix the detected problems. Agree to this, in any case, system optimization will not hurt you. After that, you will be taken to the main menu of the program.
Step 5
In this menu, select the "Fix problems" tab, then left-click on the "Show system information" section. Next, go to the Windows tab. A window will pop up with very detailed information about your computer. This information will include the build version of your operating system.
