When organizing small local networks, as well as distributing access to the Internet, it is often necessary to use special data transmission cables between computers. Connectors for connecting cables must be installed according to certain rules, the success of connecting a PC on a network largely depends on this.
Necessary
- - cable (twisted pair);
- - RJ-45 connectors;
- - special crimping tool (or flat screwdriver and sharp knife).
Instructions
Step 1
For these purposes, as a rule, a UTP (unshielded twisted pair) cable is used. It contains 4 pairs of colored copper wires, which must be inserted in a specific order into RJ-45 connectors and carefully crimped.
There are two ways to connect such cables:
1. PC-Switch (connecting several computers through an "intermediary")
2. PC - PC (direct connection of two computers or two switches)
Having chosen the type of connection (wiring diagram), proceed to the preparation of the cable.
Step 2
Use a dedicated crimping tool to crimp the cable quickly and accurately. It is not necessary to buy it, you can just temporarily ask your friends. The challenge is to precisely cut the ends of the cable, remove the overall sheath to a specific depth and crimp the connectors. It is quite difficult, and the tool has all the necessary tools for this. The precise crimping mechanism is especially important. If you do not have such a tool, then you can try to do everything with a flat screwdriver and a knife. But for beginners, this option will not be suitable.
Step 3
Strip the outer insulation of the cable to a depth of 1, 2-1, 5 cm. For a round cable, slightly cut it by turning slightly in the stripping area. You must manually remove a piece of insulation along the notch.
Route the twisted pair wires in one plane in the order determined by the selected scheme. Align all wires and cut them again.
Step 4
Run the wires into the RJ-45 connector. Do this carefully without disturbing the layout. As a result, all the wires should rest against the end of the connector. Look at the end carefully and make sure that all the conductors have reached the end.
Step 5
Insert the connector into the crimper socket until it stops and gently push the handles. By closing the handles, you thereby press the connector pins into the conductors laid in it. At the same time, the crimper closes the flag at the back of the connector, preventing the cable from escaping. The crimp on one side of the cable is complete. Crimp the other side in accordance with the selected scheme.
Step 6
If no crimping tool is available, use a sharp knife and screwdriver. Using a knife, carefully cut off the protection and conductors, and with a screwdriver, successively press the connector pins into the copper wire. Place a piece of plywood under the connector to avoid accidentally damaging the table. Make sure that all 8 contacts are pressed evenly. Finally, press in the plastic locking tab.
