In many companies it is customary to store all information in one place on the server. So network administrators can control user actions and archive data for storage on information carriers. In such cases, in order to work with the resource, you need to open a network drive.
Instructions
Step 1
Check with the network administrator for the name of the server and the resource you need. Also, find out if you have the access you need and at what level. For example, if you want to copy data to your hard drive in order to work with it on your computer, and you have read-only access, then you cannot do this. Use one of the following methods to open the network drive.
Step 2
Through "Start"
Click the start button "Start" and select "Network" or "Network Neighborhood" depending on the version of the operating system. Select “Entire Network”, then “Microsoft Windows Network” to see on the screen all the domains in it.
Step 3
Find the required entry and double-click the domain to open it. You will see a list of computers, enter the one that suits your purpose. It may turn out that it will be the only machine that you can log into, this is also a matter of access level.
Step 4
Through the "Run" command
Open the context menu of the Start button with the right mouse button. In the "Open" field, enter the name of the command interpreter "cmd", then the command "\ server_name / resource_name". Run the command, and after a while the contents of this network drive will appear on the screen.
Step 5
Through connection
Give the network share a free name for one of your drives, and the next time you don't have to do the above steps. There are two ways to do this: after the cmd command, enter the more advanced "net use x: / server_name / resource_name" command. Instead of the letter "x", any other letter of the Latin alphabet can be used. The main thing is to make sure that the corresponding disk is free.
Step 6
Connection via "Explorer"
Use this most common method. It is also the simplest one. Go to "Explorer", run the "Map network drive" command in the "Tools" section of the menu. Specify the letter and path to the resource, click "Connect". Be sure to check the box next to the line "Reconnect each time you log on to the system", otherwise the setting will disappear after turning off the computer.
