Sharing a selected folder on the local network is a standard procedure in the Microsoft Windows operating system and requires the use of a computer administrator account.
Instructions
Step 1
Call the main menu of the Microsoft Windows XP operating system to initiate the procedure for opening the shared access to the selected folder in the local network and go to the "My Computer" item (for Windows XP).
Step 2
Define the folder to be shared and open its context menu by clicking the right mouse button.
Step 3
Select the item "Sharing and Security" and go to the "Access" tab of the dialog box that opens.
Step 4
Apply the checkbox to the "Share this folder" field and enter the desired value for the name of the share being created in the corresponding field.

Use the option to create a description of the shared folder in the Notes section and specify the maximum number of users who can concurrently access the selected folder in the Limit number of users section.

Click the "Permissions" button to define the accounts that have access to the created resource, and confirm the application of the changes by clicking the OK button (for Windows XP).
Step 7
Call the main menu of the Microsoft Windows Vista operating system by clicking the "Start" button and go to the "Control Panel" item to perform the operation of opening a shared access to the selected folder in the local network.

Expand the "Network and Internet" link and select the "Network and Sharing Center" node.

Press the button with the arrow symbol to open the service menu and select the "Enable Network Neighborhood" command.

Confirm the execution of the command by clicking the "Apply" button and specify the following command "Turn on file sharing".

Confirm the command by clicking Apply and use the option "Enable Sharing so network users can open files" or select the command "Enable sharing so network users can open, modify or create files."

Confirm the execution of the command by clicking the "Apply" button and call the context menu of the folder to be opened by clicking the right mouse button.

Select Sharing and click the arrow button to select the accounts to share.

Select the desired accounts in the list that appears and click the "Share" button (for Windows Vista).
