In order to properly reinstall the operating system, you need to take into account several nuances. You must be extremely careful when installing a new OS on the disk partition where the old version is already located.
Necessary
Windows XP disk
Instructions
Step 1
The Windows XP operating system installation process does not involve creating or removing partitions from the hard drive. If you need to save the information stored on the system disk, then remove your hard drive and connect it to another computer.
Step 2
Turn on the second PC and hold down the F8 key. After opening a new menu, select the hard drive from which you want to continue booting. After starting the operating system, open the "My Computer" menu and copy all important data to another hard drive. Now connect your hard drive to your old computer.
Step 3
Insert the Windows XP installation disc into the drive and turn on the computer. Hold down the F8 key. Select the desired DVD drive in the boot device selection menu. Wait while the installer prepares the required files.
Step 4
Now select the disk partition on which the operating system is already installed. Press the Enter button. Now select the "Format to NTFS" option. Confirm the start of the disk cleaning process by pressing the F key. Wait while this procedure is completed and the installation of the new Windows XP operating system starts.
Step 5
After the first restart of the computer, set the required parameters for the Username and Password items. Set the date and time, select the firewall mode. Proceed with the installation of the new OS.
Step 6
Now install your antivirus software and download the Sam Drivers utility. Run it and update the drivers for the hardware installed in your computer. Remove the hard drive to which you copied important data and connect it to your PC.
Step 7
Copy all the files you want to your hard drive. Remember that you can skip this step if you moved files not to another hard drive, but to an additional partition of your hard drive.
