In conditions of time pressure, it can be difficult to quickly navigate the huge array of accumulated information and find the necessary file in the storage folders. If this situation is familiar to you, do not despair: there is a way out. You just need to use the ability to search for a file in the computer's memory.
Instructions
Step 1
Go to the Start menu on the taskbar at the bottom of the screen. There you will see several operations that can be performed by pressing the right mouse button: select the program to work, open the folders "My Documents" or "My Music", refer to Help or configure the computer control panel. Among all these options is the ability to search for the required file in the computer's memory - it is indicated by a magnifying glass icon. Click on it with the mouse once.
Step 2
A new dialog box appeared in front of you, divided into two parts: on the left, you can select parameters for search, and on the right, the result of the work will be reflected. If you want to search for a specific audio, video or document, click on the corresponding option. If you want to find all files with a similar name, select the "Files and folders" option.
Step 3
In the next dialog box, you will be prompted to search for one or more criteria. If you remember exactly the name of the file, then feel free to write it in the window "Part of the file name or the whole file name". If you do not remember exactly what it was called, but remember, for example, when you created it, select the "When were the last changes made" option, and then, using the arrows on the calendar, select the date. Left-click "Find".
Step 4
After the search is performed, on the left side of the window you will see how many files with this name were found, and on the right - a list where you can navigate and open exactly the file that you needed.
Step 5
If search is not configured in the Start menu, you can simply open the drive where you saved the desired file: "My Computer" - "Drive D". In the upper taskbar, along with the choice of a folder or window view, there will be a "Search" option. Clicking on it will open the search dialog box.
Step 6
You can also search for a file in Total Commander. To do this, open the program, on the toolbar, click on the icon of the disk on which you will search for the file. Then press Alt + F7 from the keyboard at the same time. A file search window will open. Here you can set the file name and search location. If you do not remember the name of the file, then you can only set the type of the file you need (extension). And the file name in this case is denoted by an asterisk (Shift + 8).
Step 7
Click "Start Search", and after a while you will receive a list of found files with that name or extension. Double-clicking on a name in the list will close the search and take you to the folder where this file is stored.
