During installation, the Windows operating system prompts for a password. It is usually not entered, so logging in is straightforward. But if a password is set, the user has to enter it every time they log on to the system. Sometimes it becomes necessary to change the entered password or completely disable its input.
Instructions
Step 1
When working on a home computer, you usually do not need to set a login password. It is useful if you want to restrict access to a computer in an office or other similar room. In this case, the password must be complex enough so that it cannot be guessed. In addition, it is recommended to change the password at least once a month.
Step 2
To change your password, open Start - Control Panel - User Accounts (Change settings and passwords for user accounts on this computer). In the window that opens, double-click the required account, then select "Change password". Enter the current password in the top line, enter the new one twice below. In the additional line, you can enter a hint about it - in case you forget it. The hint will be visible to everyone, so it should not give a clear hint about the password. Save your changes by clicking the Change Password button.
Step 3
It is possible that a user has forgotten their password and cannot log in to the system. You can try to fix this problem by booting into Safe Mode. To do this, when starting the computer, press F8 and select "Safe Mode" in the window that opens. Once booted into Safe Mode, open the User Accounts item in Control Panel, select the required account and change the password.
Step 4
The method described above is suitable if the administrator account does not have a password or you know it. When installing the operating system, Windows prompts you to enter a username, you can change the password for just such an entry. The default computer administrator login is Administrator.
Step 5
If the password entry window gets in the way, you can turn it off. Open again: Start - Control Panel - User Accounts (Change settings and passwords for user accounts on this computer). In the window that opens, click "Change user login", check the boxes "Use the welcome page" and "Use fast user switching". Click the Apply Settings button.
Step 6
Keep in mind that setting a login password provides limited protection. The password prevents you from loading a specific OS, but your files can always be viewed and copied by booting from the LiveCD in your absence. Alternatively, the password can be changed using the ERD Commander utility.
