The new operating system for Apple computers was released on July 25, 2012. She received the designation OS X 10.8 and its own name Mountain Lion, which translates as "mountain lion", or "cougar". With a few prerequisites, installing a new operating system is a very simple task.
Before installing a new system, its manufacturer - Apple - recommends that you ensure that your computer is capable of running this OS. To do this, a list of supported models is published on the company's website, which includes:
- iMac released mid 2007 or later;
- MacBook release late 2008 in an aluminum case;
- MacBook produced in 2009 or later;
- MacBook Pro mid 2007 or later;
- MacBook Air released late 2008 or later;
- Mac mini manufactured in 2009 or later;
- Mac Pro 2008 or later;
- Xserve 2009 release.
If you are using the Lion or Snow Leopard operating system, before installing Mountain Lion, you also need to make sure that the version of the current OS has the latest updates. To do this, click the Apple icon in the upper left corner of the screen and select the "About this Mac" item in the drop-down menu. The window that appears will indicate the version of the running system - if it is Lion 10.7.x or Snow Leopard 10.6.8, then the OS is ready to install Mountain Lion. Otherwise, you need to update the system through the "Software Update" item in the same menu opened by clicking on the Apple icon.
The installation of the new Mountain Lion OS does not require its separate purchase on physical disks; this is done remotely via the App Store application, which is in the operating system after performing the updates described above. You can launch this application through the Dock, and then find the required OS in the catalog and buy it online. It will take some time to download the installation file as it is 4, 32 GB in size. Then the installation process should start automatically and all instructions will appear on the screen. If for some reason it does not start automatically, you should find in the Applications directory and double-click on the file with the name Install OS X Mountain Lion.app.
