Skype allows you to communicate at any distance. At the same time, it is possible to write messages, talk and see the interlocutor. But in some cases, the image is not needed. It is then that it is better to turn off the camera. There are several ways to disable it.
Instructions
Step 1
Open the Skype settings dialog. To do this, in the main window, left-click on the "Tools" menu item, and then select the "Settings" sub-item. You will see a window with many different parameters that you can change. In the future, it is in this window that you can make any settings.
Step 2
Click on the "Video Settings" item in the left part of the window. You will see a small window that will show the current view from the camera, its name and several parameters. You only need to change two parameters: "Automatic video reception and screen sharing" (in some versions the text may differ, but the approximate meaning remains the same), switching it to the position "from no one", and the parameter "Show my video …" set in the "nobody" position. Now the camera connected to your computer will not be used in Skype. It may turn out that you have an earlier version of Skype installed, then the disconnection procedure will be slightly different.
Step 3
Activate the settings dialog again. On the left side, instead of the "Video Settings" item, there will be an item "Video Devices" for recently released versions of Skype and "Communication Settings" for versions released more than a year ago. In the first case, you will need to change the same parameters as in the case of the modern version of Skype (reminder: the text may differ, but slightly), and in the second, you only need to switch the Use webcam option to the “do not use” state.
Step 4
Disconnect the camera during a call by clicking on the video camera icon if you need to make an audio call one or more times, or to a certain group of people. Turning off the camera while using the settings dialog makes it impossible to make video calls to all contacts, while turning off the camera temporarily or once allows you to resume subsequent calls using the webcam.
