An action is a saved sequence of image transformations in Photoshop. Applying actions saves a lot of time and allows you to focus on the part of the work that requires a truly creative approach.

Necessary

  • - Photoshop program;
  • - image.

Instructions

Step 1

Open the picture you want to save as an action in Photoshop. To do this, open the folder with the image in the explorer, right-click on the file and select the "Open with" option. Select Photoshop from the list of suggested programs.

Step 2

Switch to the Actions palette by clicking on the Actions tab, which is located next to the History tab in the middle right side of the program window.

Step 3

Create a new set of actions. This can be done using the Create new set button at the bottom of the Actions palette. You create something like a folder where actions of the same type will be stored, so you need to come up with a name for it, by which you can understand what actions it contains. In the window that opens, enter the name of the set and click on the OK button.

Step 4

Create a new action by clicking on the Create new action button that can be seen at the bottom of the Actions palette to the right of the Create new set button. In the Name field, enter a name for the action. Of course, you can leave the default name, but it is still more convenient to name the action so that you can understand what it does. For example, if you are recording a sequence to convert an image to black and white, name the action black_white1.

Step 5

You can immediately bind the launch of the created action to some keyboard shortcut. To do this, select one of the keys from the Function key drop-down list and check the Shift or Ctrl checkbox.

Step 6

Start recording by clicking the Record button in the action's properties window. After that, the window will close, and everything that you do with the image open in Photoshop will be recorded in the created sequence of actions.

Step 7

Stop recording your action by clicking on the Stop playing / recording button. It's the leftmost button below the Actions palette. Your action has been recorded. Now, in order to apply the sequence of actions that you recorded to the image, you just need to click on the action with the left mouse button and press the Play button. This arrow-shaped button is at the bottom of the Actions palette, like all the other palette content control buttons.
