Users of any operating system have at least once come across such a concept as a cluster. This word means a certain value, which means the size of the cell for storing files. Typically this size depends on the storage capacity of the media.

Instructions

Step 1

To find out the size of cells (clusters) on a hard disk, it is enough to understand how this value is formed. This size is set when formatting the hard disk by the program itself, the algorithms of which are the same for all utilities of this plan. For example, for media with a volume of less than 1 GB, the cluster size is up to 1 KB, for 4 GB this value rises to 4K, etc.

Step 2

However, the data in the pivot tables of the formatter is not always correct. When converting from one file system to another, the cluster size can be equal to some value that is standard for the resulting file system. For example, after converting a hard drive from FAT32 to NTFS, the size of information storage cells does not exceed 512 bytes.

Step 3

There are several ways to quickly find out the cluster size without installing additional software. One of them is to check the defragmentation status of the system or other partitions. To do this, click the "Start" menu and select "Control Panel". In the window that opens, double-click on the "Administration" icon.

Step 4

In the window that appears, open the "Computer Management" shortcut and go to the "Data storage" (storage devices) section. In this block, you need to run the "Disk Defragmenter" command.

Step 5

Click the Analyze button. After a few seconds, the selected hard disk partition will be automatically scanned. Click the "View Report" button to view detailed information about the status of the hard disk. In the window that opens, pay attention to the line "Cluster size". In the considered example, this value was equal to 4 KB, therefore, the volume of the system partition is not less than 12 GB.

Step 6

In some cases, it is better to save information about the selected section. Click the Save As button. In the window that opens, specify the save directory, file name and press the Enter key.
